This feast recalls that Jesus gave his disciples a glimpse of his divine nature – a comfort on the road to the Cross and a reminder to us all that we too are destined for eternity.

Edith Stein was a professional academic philosopher and Jewish. She became a Catholic and a Carmelite sister. Because of her origins, she was caught up in the Nazi persecution of her people and exterminated, with her sister Rosa, in Auschwitz.
A deacon in the early Church of Rome he was martyred – burned alive – for his faith in Jesus. Deacons are a reminder to the whole church that we find our fulfilment in serving others.

Moved from 15th August - This feast recalls that since she was immaculately conceived, free of all corruption Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven. This feast is a singular honour to the Mother of God but a reminder that we too are called to be God forever in heaven.

The Mill Hill Missionaries have kindly agreed to cover Fr Jim’s holiday time away. We thank them very much!

Safe travels to Father Jim – he promises to remember everybody in his prayers while he is away.

The quickest weeks of the year are now over. Good luck to everybody starting school or moving up and for everybody heading back to class. Best wishes to our teaching, auxiliary and domestic staff teams that keep our great schools going!

It’s unfashionable to talk about the judgement. Today’s gospel reminds us that we are called to find fulfilment and salvation by being humble people of service – it’s this narrower road that leads to a fuller life!
