Looking to the Future
‘When you pray, go into your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is in there, in that secret place’. Matthew 6:6
Meditation is prayer – prayer of the heart. We are not speaking to God. We are just being in the presence of God. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness.
We have a meditation group which meets on the first Monday of the month – 7pm in the Oratory in Chapel House. Each meeting starts with gentle music to still us, then we move on to 20 minutes of silent meditation. We usually follow this with a short reading/reflection. Each meeting lasts around 45 minutes.
Ministry of Welcome
It is important that all parishioners and visitors feel welcome when attending mass and other services in the church. Although that is everyone’s responsibility a few people at each mass will greet the congregation as they arrive with a cheery good morning /evening and direct them to their seats, ensuring they have any bulletins as required. Formerly known as passkeepers, the welcomers will also assist with any collections to be taken up as well as making sure everyone is comfortable during services.
Ministry of Readers
The Reading of the Word at the Table of the Word (lectern) is a very important contribution to the liturgy of the Mass. We currently have 43 Readers who read at each of the 4 weekend Masses as well as the midweek daily Masses. Reading duties are allocated via a 12-week rota, with 2 Readers allocated to each weekend Mass. We are currently short of Readers at the Saturday 5.30pm Vigil and Sunday 9am Masses. If a Reader experiences a problem fulfilling a particular duty then cover is easily arranged via a Contacts List. We welcome new volunteers and, if necessary, guidelines will be gladly given.
Altar Servers
We have a team of 16 servers, young people and some young adults, who assist by serving Mass on Sunday and weekday Mass also). This enhances our worship and involved our young people in a very direct way. There is always space (and training) for more people to volunteer. Speak to Fr, Jim for more information.
Children’s Liturgy
Children’s Liturgy takes place at 11am Sunday Mass. It gives our children at the Immaculate Conception the opportunity to gather to listen to and talk about the Gospel at a level they can understand, followed by prayer and activities. Children’s Liturgy is for primary school aged children. It is led by a group of parishioners who work in pairs to deliver each session. At the beginning of Mass the children are called forward to the altar and given a Bible, and then the children process to the hall for their Liturgy of the Word. After the session children return to their parents during the Offertory. If you would like to be involved with Children’s Liturgy please contact lauradegnan@hotmail.com.

Church Cleaners
The parish cleaning team meets for an hour or so on a Monday and Friday after morning mass to make the Chapel spick and span.
Whether its cleaning the loos or the windows, polishing the brasses or hoovering, watering the plants or maintaining the fonts or just keeping the cobwebs at bay, the Gleam Team take a real pride in their work.
Volunteers are always welcome, feel free to contact us and we will get back to you.
Sunday Tea Ladies
This is an important chance after worship to catch up for a cuppa! Our dedicated ladies serve us tea every Sunday and never say no when we ask them to offer hospitality at other events through the year.
