• Feast of St Laurence

A deacon in the early Church of Rome he was martyred – burned alive – for his faith in Jesus. Deacons are a reminder to the whole church that we find our fulfilment in serving others.

  • Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Moved from 15th August - This feast recalls that since she was immaculately conceived, free of all corruption Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven. This feast is a singular honour to the Mother of God but a reminder that we too are called to be God forever in heaven.

  • Back to school

The quickest weeks of the year are now over. Good luck to everybody starting school or moving up and for everybody heading back to class. Best wishes to our teaching, auxiliary and domestic staff teams that keep our great schools going!

  • 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

It’s unfashionable to talk about the judgement. Today’s gospel reminds us that we are called to find fulfilment and salvation by being humble people of service – it’s this narrower road that leads to a fuller life!

  • Feast of St Bartholomew

He came from Cana in Galilee and followed Jesus. We know little of him, but he may have gone to Persia where he was martyred by being flayed – skinned alive.  Did you know that in Michelangelo’s picture of Bartholomew from the Sistine Chapel, in the flayed skin is a picture of Michelangelo himself!

  • 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

As so often, the gospel turns the values of the world upside down! Followers of Jesus are invited to humility, openness and not seekers of power or the limelight!

  • Church closed for redecoration

The church is closed this week to be redecorated. Weekday Mass will move into the church hall. Please help keep things ticking over in the practical arrangements for each day. Thanks for your patience!

  • 23rd Sunday in Ordinary time

Jesus never promised that discipleship would be a bed of roses. Today Luke tells us clearly that following the Lord means sharing in his cross - every day!
