    Patron saint of Parish Priests.  A good day to pray for all priests and to remember our own priest, Father Jim! Please note there are many other saints commemorated in August – we are highlighting just a few.

  • Feast of St Theresa Benedicta of the Cross

    Edith Stein was a professional academic philosopher and Jewish. She became a Catholic and a Carmelite sister. Because of her origins, she was caught up in the Nazi persecution of her people and exterminated, with her sister Rosa, in Auschwitz.

  • Feast of St Laurence

    A deacon in the early Church of Rome he was martyred – burned alive – for his faith in Jesus. Deacons are a reminder to the whole church that we find our fulfilment in serving others.

  • Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

    Moved from 15th August - This feast recalls that since she was immaculately conceived, free of all corruption Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven. This feast is a singular honour to the Mother of God but a reminder that we too are called to be God forever in heaven.
