• Feast of St Anthony of Padua

    One of people’s favourites – ‘The Saint’! A Portuguese Franciscan who ended up in Padua, he was renowned for his preaching and his kindness to the poor. There is an image of him in our church and box where people continue that tradition of helping those in need.

    Jesus calls his first followers. The gospel goes to the length of giving each name because each one represents a particular story and a particular response. If that gospel were to be written today – YOUR name would be in that list!

    St Benedict, co-patron of Europe, was a monk, writer, and theologian, venerated in the Catholic Church, Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches and also the Anglican communion. He is associated most famously with the monastery at Monte Cassino.
